New e-learning module - How can mentoring support the work of the governing body

The benefits of mentoring are significant for a school governing body. Effective mentoring can play a key role in developing a governor’s proficiency – be it as a new governor, chair of governors or clerk. This helps to ensure that they are fully involved in the work and smooth running of the governing body. Mentoring is also an excellent development opportunity. While new governors will benefit from the advice, guidance, and encouragement of someone more skilled, as a governor you get to develop coaching skills, as well as gaining a sense of personal satisfaction from taking someone under your wing.

– In this short course, you’ll find information about the different ways mentoring can assist. This includes:
– what a mentor governor does;
– the qualities to look for;
– how to lead productive mentoring sessions; and
– the do’s and don’ts of becoming an effective mentor.

You’ll also learn about the common challenges in a mentoring relationship along with strategies to overcome each, as well as all the benefits.
