Do you have views on school governing bodies in Wales?

Important update about the review of governing bodies from Welsh Government

School governing bodies play a vital role supporting learners, staff and the wider school community. Their responsibilities are wide-ranging and are set out in legislation and Welsh Government guidance.

Over the past decade, the school system in Wales has undergone significant reform. During this time, governing bodies have taken on additional and amended duties. However, despite these changes the core purpose of school governing bodies has remained largely the same.

We are reviewing School Governing Bodies in Wales. The review is considering how we can best ensure that governors are properly supported and equipped through effective training and guidance, and that their role is clearly and appropriately defined in legislation. The work is supported by a reference group, which is helping to inform the review by providing views, advice and insight.

We are keen to hear from as many people as possible who have an interest in school governance, particularly governors, school staff, parents and learners, over the coming weeks and months. We want to avoid survey fatigue and to gather more meaningful, authentic feedback. So, our focus will be on discussion, attending or organising meetings, to hear views and ideas directly.

If you are part of an existing association, network or group that would like to contribute into the review, we would be very pleased to hear from you.
